B2B exporter to Bangladesh from Hyderabad, Pakistan since 1957. Karachi to Chittagong direct sea-freight transit 7 to 10 days, BSTI-compliant documentation, Halal certificate via IFANCA / JAKIM / HASL chains, SAFTA preferential origin where applicable. Strong existing pipeline into Pran-RFL, Square, Akij agribusiness and the Dhaka spice-blend retail tier.
Bangladesh imports a defined cluster of agri-products from Pakistan: cumin seed, fenugreek, coriander seed and kalonji dominate the spice line, with rising demand for fennel in retail tea and digestive blends. Alfalfa hay and seed flow into the growing commercial dairy sector — Pran-RFL, Square Food & Beverage, Akij agribusiness and BRAC's dairy program — alongside berseem clover for cool-season cut-and-carry. Pink salt retails strongly via supermarket chains (Meena Bazar, Agora, Shwapno). On nutraceuticals, basil seed (sabja) ships into traditional drink manufacturers, and rose petals meet retail-tier perfumery and wedding-decor demand.
The Karachi-to-Chittagong route is one of the shortest and cheapest agri-import routes available to Bangladesh, with direct sea-freight transit of 7 to 10 days via Maersk, MSC, ONE and CMA-CGM rotations. Transhipment via Colombo or Singapore extends transit to 10-14 days but sometimes prices lower for non-time-critical cargo. Mongla port is an alternative for southwestern Bangladesh buyers but volumes are much lower and few direct Karachi rotations exist — most Mongla cargo transships through Singapore. We default to FOB Karachi or FOB Port Qasim and recommend that Bangladeshi importers confirm their preferred Chittagong C&F agent before booking; we will pre-coordinate documentation with that agent.
Bangladesh import duty on agri-products varies by HS line. Indicative — please verify with your C&F agent and the latest National Board of Revenue (NBR) tariff schedule before quoting your retail price. Spices commonly land at 5-25 percent total tax (CD + VAT + AIT + RD) depending on whether the line is a "luxury" or "essential". Alfalfa hay and seed enjoy preferential treatment under SAFTA (South Asian Free Trade Agreement) certificate of origin where eligible — saving 5-15 percent versus standard MFN duty. Pink salt and dried flowers face standard MFN. BSTI (Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution) conformity is required for retail-pack food items above certain thresholds; bulk-grade ingredient shipments destined for an industrial buyer are typically exempt but we supply BSTI conformity declaration on request.
Bangladesh accepts multiple Halal certification chains. The most commonly recognized for imported food and ingredient: IFANCA (US-based, widely accepted), JAKIM (Malaysia, recognized through reciprocity), HASL (Halal Authority Sustainability Limited Bangladesh — the local body), and Pakistan Halal Authority direct. We supply IFANCA-compatible documentation by default with every shipment. JAKIM-recognized or HASL-direct chains can be arranged on request for buyers feeding Halal-segregated channels. The HASL local body is increasingly preferred for retail-pack consumer goods that carry an on-pack Halal logo.
Bangladesh import payment infrastructure is mature and bank-driven. The standard Bangladesh-side instrument is letter of credit (LC) at sight or LC 60-90 days from BL date, opened through a Bangladesh Bank-licensed commercial bank (Sonali, City, Eastern, BRAC, Dutch-Bangla, Islami Bank Bangladesh, Mutual Trust). For first orders we default to 30 percent T/T advance plus 70 percent against scanned BL. Once the trading relationship is established (typically 3-6 successful shipments), LC at sight becomes the norm. Open account is rare on first orders. Repeat-buyer relationships extending to LC at 60-90 days are common with established Pran-RFL or Square-tier buyers.
